BOLERO

Contemporary piece

Ravel’s Bolero, with its steadily intensifying rhythmic melody culminating in an extraordinary climax, has always been a profound source of inspiration for me. This sensual piece evokes themes of sexuality, desire, and the delicate balance between personal passions and societal constraints. It explores how far a person can leverage its allure before losing control, as portrayed in this ballet by the climactic confrontation with three men. Life is a perpetual dance between hidden desires and societal possibilities, where secret passions and sexual yearnings intertwine with the constraints of reality, pushing the boundaries of what is deemed acceptable and exploring the depths of human emotion.
Bolero premiered in July 2023 at the Festival Krumlov’s opening ceremonial concert. I am proud that the dancers from Semperoper Ballet will once again bring this remarkable ballet to life, celebrating its Prague premiere with you tonight. The choreography have celebrated great success in last year premiere and have already received offers for upcoming well-known ballet galas in Germany and elsewhere.
